Building inclusive AI tools for ocean conservation

Local voices, global impact
Our mission
We aim to create tangible ecological impact through integrating local knowledge and perspectives into scientific, political and economic discourse. Co-creating by design, debiasing by default, ethically scaling.
What is
Benthos?
Benthos refers to the organisms that live at the bottom of lakes, rivers and ocean - like corals and mollusks - forming the foundation of marine life. Our name is inspired by their role in ecosystems and by the experience of someone from an underrepresented community impacted by environmental injustices. Just as benthic life sustains entire marine ecosystems, we believe in building conservation from the ground up, using technology as a catalyst to amplify the recognition of diverse knowledge systems.
